About the Feat of the Queenship of Mary

Today, August 22 , (on my birthday!) the Church celebrates the Queenship of Mary.  On this feast day we honor Mary as the Queen of Heaven and Earth.

Pope Pius XII established this feast day in his encyclical Ad Coeli Reginam, calling the Blessed Mother “Queen of Heaven and earth…exalted above all chairs of Angels and the ranks of the Saints in Heaven, standing at the right hand of Her only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Pope Pius encouraged all Catholics to turn to the Blessed Virgin in times of trouble and hardship and ask for her intercession.

Hail Holy Queen Prayer

Hail Holy Queen
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To you do we cry,
poor banished children of Eve.
To you do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
your eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this exile
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
O clement, O loving,
O sweet Virgin Mary.
